01 The material
Luxury vinyl plank is vinyl flooring made in long, narrow boards. A printed design, usually wood-look, sits under a clear wear layer that takes the day-to-day traffic.
Most LVP products are installed one of two ways: as a floating floor where the planks lock together, or glued down to the subfloor. Every product comes with its own installation instructions from the manufacturer, and those instructions set the rules for the job.
02 Rooms
Many LVP products are sold as water-resistant or waterproof, which is why they are a common choice for kitchens. That rating is about spills on the surface. It does not fix moisture coming up from below, which is dealt with during preparation.
You can see vinyl and other plank floors from our job sites on the projects page.
03 Climate
Many Central Florida homes are built on concrete slabs, and the air stays humid for much of the year. Vinyl does not swell with humidity the way wood can, but it still expands and contracts with temperature, and manufacturers set requirements for subfloor flatness, moisture, expansion space at the walls and acclimation.
Rooms with large windows and strong afternoon sun deserve extra attention for the same reason. When those requirements are skipped, problems tend to show up later as gaps, separating seams or planks that lift.

When there is existing flooring, it comes out first. See floor demolition and removal.
The subfloor needs to be clean, flat and within the manufacturer's limits. High spots, low spots and leftover adhesive are dealt with before the first plank goes down.
